If you give a gal a Sabbath...

Y’all know those children’s books: If you give a mouse a cookie… If you give a pig a pancake… If you give a moose a muffin… If you give a dog a donut?

We loved those books when the boys were small; in truth, I had a couple of them memorized, and today, I am reminded of how much my life looks like a children’s book sometimes.

Here, I humbly submit my version of the above-mentioned books. My musings may or may not be based on actual events. Hm-mmm…

If you give a pastor a sabbath…

If you give a pastor a sabbath, she’ll decide that it would be a good idea to exercise.

While she’s exercising, she’ll do a downward dog and see dust bunnies the size of her fist, so she’ll start sweeping.

While she’s sweeping, she’ll remember the leaves that need to be swept off the garage floor.

While she’s in the garage sweeping, she’ll see the can of “fix a flat” and remember that her lawn mower has a low tire, so she’ll start to put air in the lawn mower tire.

While she’s recapping the tire’s air valve, she’ll realize that she hasn’t ridden her bike in a while, so she’ll ride her bicycle to the mailbox down the street to get the mail.

On her way back from the mailbox, she’ll bring home an Amazon box with a birthday gift in it, which she’ll put in her closet.

While she’s looking in her closet, she’ll see her sewing machine and remember that there is a global health crisis, so she’ll make 3 dozen pandemic masks.

While she’s putting up her sewing machine, she’ll see the fleece fabric she bought to make a blanket. It will remind her of the fluffy throw cover on her bed, so she’ll go find that cover.

And, as we all know, if you give a pastor a fluffy throw cover, she’ll want a Sabbath to go with it.

Yeah, so that’s my version… If y’all know a good illustrator, let me know. This thing might actually have some commercial appeal. Or at least ecclesial.

P. S. The above is not an endorsement of any particular product; no financial gain was received for the publishing of this dithering.

Y’all stay safe out there…
