#godisfaithful432

Note: The pics of Tamara and Stan are from their Facebook Live videos this week!

This week – amongst the millions of things I’ve seen and read online – I heard one pretty famous business analyst say that our world, especially in relation to how we run businesses, will never be like before COVID-19. There are practices that we are putting in place and mindsets that we are adopting that will never be put aside – even long after this global health crisis is behind us. This is largely because – for all of us, regardless of industry – we are having to find new ways of doing things, new ways to fulfill our mission because old ways are just not available.

This challenge seems especially daunting to communities of faith – communities that are entirely built on relationships, on people being together, and on the importance of fellowship. How can we be together when we can’t be together?

And, so, the last few weeks have brought a host of new ideas – some of which will work and some of which will fall miserably flat. One of those ideas – And the jury is still out on this one! – is the recent campaign we’ve begun at Sierra Vista to “Remember God’s Faithfulness.” The inspiration for this campaign is Isaiah 43:2.

Pastor Stan chose this verse initially because of the comfort he has seen it bring, but it’s a pretty great verse for our specific situation when you think about it. Isaiah was writing to all the Jews forced into exile by the Assyrians. Their temple was destroyed, and these people were forced to Babylon, about 900 miles from their hometown of Jerusalem. The Jews wondered – and, in fact, the Babylonians believed – that God had forgotten them during this time. It’s in the midst of this loss that Isaiah writes of a time when folks did not understand where God was. And, now, today, so many years later, we face a similar time – a time when we are also wondering where God is, and we need reminders that God is here.

The goal of this #godisfaithful432 promotion is that, together, we can help one another remember God’s faithfulness. And so every day, Monday through Friday at 4:32 p.m., you are invited to set an alarm and to pray Isaiah 43:2. You can add your own prayer to this verse, or you can just recite it. There is no wrong approach, but there is great comfort – comfort in knowing that, each day at 4:32 p.m., friends of Sierra Vista are praying that same verse – reminding us all of God’s constancy in the midst of our world’s chaos.

While we will pray this verse every day of the week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, one of the pastors will go on Facebook Live to share not only a prayer of this verse but a devotional time as well. We invite you to join us!

And there’s even more… We don’t want y’all to just pray Isaiah 43:2 at 4:32 every day. We want you to take the idea into your hearts so that you can see God’s faithfulness in all the details of your daily lives. As a result of that, we are asking you to take to social media, and, every time that you post something that shows God’s faithfulness, we are asking you to also add to the bottom of your post the hashtag, #godisfaithful432. (Not sure what a hashtag is? Check out this link!)

And, if you think about it, the truth is that #godisfaithful432 should be at the end of every post we make because, if we aren’t posting ideas on social media related to God’s faithfulness in one way or another, then maybe we shouldn’t be posting at all.

Regardless of the hashtags and the live feeds, I pray that these ancient words will bring comfort to us all, reminding us that, even when our struggles seem insurmountable, God is indeed faithful.

Y’all stay safe out there…

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
